Ikebata Nursery School is a special place for children to play, learn, experience, grow and socialize in a full Japanese immersion environment.

Our goal is to promote the Japanese language, heritage and culture and to encourage a multicultural understanding by offering fun co-operative activities to any children between the age of 18months to 6 years who is interested in learning Japanese language and culture. We provide creative and stimulating activities that encourage social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth.

We are committed to providing a safe, caring and nurturing environment for children.“How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years (2014)” is used as a guide when programming is developed for each child.  We also use Japanese-style approach to plan activities that facilitate learning through free & structured play/learning time to provide a balanced program that supports children to grow and develop to their fullest potential.

Ikebata Nursery School is committed to helping children grow and develop to their fullest potential in a safe, caring and nurturing environment, however it is necessary at times to set limits and standards of appropriate behaviour. Our staff are guided by the Program statement which they are required to adhere to at all times when interacting with children. All staff, students and volunteers must review and sign off the policies annually or at any time or when modified.

Guidance and positive correction of children is presented in all dimensions of our children’s programs. The Daily Programs are designed to ensure that the children develop in spirit, mind and body in a safe and positive environment that enhances the children’s self-respect and respect for others. Their safety, health and well being are our top priorities.

Our programs are designed to:

· encourage children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self-regulate

· foster the children’s exploration, play and inquiry

· provide child-initiated and adult-supported experiences

· offer opportunities to create authentic lasting relationships with others in the program
